The importance of considered Typography.

I’m a bit of a tragic when it comes to fonts. I’ll quite happily trawl through font libraries for hours, looking for the perfect font for each project. Subtle difference in the serif of a “T” can change the way I view the overall design.

Often I’ll go in with a particular idea in mind, but sometimes it’s great to relax and see what jumps out at you. The most important thing is that the font and typography work with the project.

Every website we design at WEB 105 begins with a considered typographic approach. Websites are largely text-based, as such, the way the words are viewed on screen can greatly influence user behaviour.

With the proliferation of fontface fonts, the options open to the Web Designer are greater than ever. So how do we pick the right font? And what makes the right font, “the right font?”

The following article makes a start on explaining the importance of respecting the ancient rules of Typography and is well worth a read: http://www.smashingmagazine.com/2012/03/14/respect-thy-typography/
